If you are looking for good Skype for Business room conferencing solutions consider the Logitech console and the Biamp Devio systems. Each one addresses a different requirement.
The Logitech system, which just started shipping last month, handles the Skype call setup and management for a meeting room. This all runs on a built-in Surface Pro 4 with Windows 10 Enterprise. Walk into the room, start a conference or join an existing meeting. The Logitech console is one of the few systems certified by Microsoft (Logitech, Polycom, Crestron).
The Biamp Devio takes a different approach, acting as a connecting hub to an existing Skype certified appliance – your laptop. The hub connects the room peripherals; Touch TV or Interactive projector, microphones, speakers into a permanent location for example under the boardroom table and the presenter’s laptop connects via USB 3.0. It is not Skype for Business specific – the connected laptop can be used with any video conferencing solution.
The Devio has worked well with our first customer. It supports two HDMI displays (TV’s or projectors). It also includes digital signal processing that allows its microphones and connected speakers to work together without feedback. Microphone choices are tabletop or ceiling mounted – both are “beam forming” to allow voice tracking as a speaker moves around the room.
One of the considerations with both devices is the length of USB cable (5m) that is allowed before needing to use USB extenders.
